Washington officials reject DOJ non-citizen voter list
Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and other state officials on 31 October rejected the Justice Department’s request to set aside ballots for more than 400 alleged non-citizen voters, calling the federal list unreliable and saying it mixes U. S. citizens and inactive registrants. They said they will not discard ballots without individual proof of ineligibility.
The Acting U. S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington had earlier accused state officials of failing to verify citizenship, while the Justice Department reported that investigators found over 400 non-citizens on voter rolls and about 1,500 ballots cast by them. The department had previously asked Washington to withhold those ballots pending eligibility verification and announced a press conference in Seattle to release its findings.
