Pacific Seafood Plant Fire Triggers Level 3 Evacuation in Newport, Oregon
KATU reported that a structure fire at the Pacific Seafood facility on Newport’s Bayfront prompted a Level 3 evacuation, hazmat monitoring and a multi-agency response, with no injuries and the plant subsequently shut down. Earlier, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office ordered a one-mile evacuation and relocated an emergency shelter after the blaze raised concerns about a possible ammonia leak, according to KVAL. Later, officials said the ammonia storage tanks remained intact and there was no risk of contamination, NBC reported.
