U.S. Refuses to Intervene as Houthis Ramp Up Saudi Attacks
The Intercept reported that the United States, under President Donald Trump, said on 28 October it would not intervene in the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, underscoring a reduced American military presence in the region. Earlier in the week, the Saudi-led coalition said it had destroyed a ballistic missile, a drone and a cruise missile targeting Riyadh and Khamis Mushait and later intercepted ten missiles bound for southern Saudi Arabia (Al Jazeera). Saudi authorities also intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh (CNA).
The Houthi movement claimed to have struck the Ras Tanura oil refinery and Saudi defence ministry with ballistic missiles, though Saudi officials reported interceptions and a contained fire (Jerusalem Post; NDTV). The escalation included a Houthi strike on Aden airport after an evacuation warning, injuring civilians and halting flights (Reuters).
