Lorne Doerkson becomes BC premier, pledges finance audit and pipeline push
Lorne Doerkson, leader of the British Columbia Conservative Party, said he will assume the province’s premiership and outlined a financial audit, a hospital wait-time commission, tax relief and plans to advance the Pacific Link oil pipeline. The Vancouver Sun reported that the Conservatives secured a supermajority in the provincial election, ending nine years of NDP rule and that interim leader Doerkson would become premier.
Earlier, the paper noted that NDP leader David Eby resigned after the defeat. Global News said Doerkson announced his intention to form a government following the victory.
