USA Today reported that Utah's football program rose to No.  4 in the USA TODAY Sports NCAA Re-Rank 1-138 after defeating Houston on 24 October, moving the Utes into the top five for the first time this season. Earlier in the week, CBS Sports said Utah had climbed to No.  6 in the AP Top 25 following the same victory, while Texas advanced to No.

 11 after beating Ole Miss and BYU dropped to No.  8 after a loss to Central Florida; Miami stayed at No.  1 in the poll.
