Harry Kane Wins 2026 Ballon d’Or, First English Winner in 25 Years
Harry Kane was announced as the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner at the London ceremony on 26 October, the first time a player from Germany’s Bundesliga has received the prize since 1996. Kane’s triumph ends a 25-year drought for English players, the previous winner being in 2001, and follows a season in which he scored more than 60 goals for Bayern Munich and England, a tally reported as 61 by the BBC and 73 by the Straits Times. The award also saw Spain’s Alexia Putellas win her third Ballon d’Or Féminin, while betting markets had listed Kane as the front-runner ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal.
