Canadian Halloween candy prices surge, savory snacks jump 18%
On 30 October, Statistics Canada and Dalhousie University reported that Canadian confectionery prices had risen 28% since 2020, while savory snack prices jumped 18% in October. Earlier reports linked the price surge to higher cocoa costs. CP24 noted that rising cocoa prices were pushing Halloween chocolate costs up 12-15% and leading to smaller package sizes. Chron observed that candy pack prices were up more than 15% year-over-year, with some items approaching 40% increases.
VOCM said chocolate prices had risen 20-30% because of higher cocoa, packaging and transportation costs. In the United States, USA Today reported a 6. 7% dip in Halloween candy sales in mid-October as higher chocolate prices and tighter household budgets curbed spending.
