Netflix's 'The Mosquito Bowl' launches in theaters ahead of streaming debut
The film opened in theaters this week, earning a 36% Rotten Tomatoes rating, and is slated to appear on Netflix later in the year, MovieWeb reported. Earlier, the movie debuted at the AFI Fest where it received praise for its narrative, according to MovieWeb. The Hollywood Reporter noted strong action sequences but criticized thin character development and predictable themes.
USA Today described the plot as a dramatization of a 1944 football game among Marine divisions on Guadalcanal and the players' subsequent wartime service. IndieWire reported that director Peter Berg helmed the project, which features Ray Nicholson alongside Skarsgård and Galitzine.
