Attorney General defends DOJ suit over Alaska Senate ballot confusion
Attorney General Todd Blanche told NPR that the Justice Department's lawsuit was filed to prevent voter confusion in Alaska's Senate race, not to assist President Trump in contesting the election outcome. The suit was originally lodged on 21 October, when the department argued that a second candidate named Dan Sullivan could mislead voters and sought to block certification of the Senate results that could decide Senate control, Reuters reported.
Democratic-aligned groups later moved to intervene in the case, and attorneys for Democratic Senate candidate Mary Peltola and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee asked a federal judge to dismiss the suit, according to CNBC and NBC News. Senator Lisa Murkowski criticized the filing, and Blanche rejected questions about using the lawsuit to overturn the election, The Independent noted.
