Trump administration sues to block Alaska Senate certification over name confusion
On 26 October, the Justice Department’s lawsuit seeking to block certification of Alaska’s 2026 Senate election remained pending after Democratic-aligned candidates and groups filed motions to intervene and to dismiss the case, arguing that the suit’s timing and legal basis were questionable. The department filed the suit on 21 October, asserting that a second candidate named Dan J. Sullivan could confuse voters and that certification should be halted if incumbent Republican Dan Sullivan loses, a move that could affect Senate control. Associate Attorney General Stanley E.
Woodward Jr. described the action as protecting election integrity. Attorney General Todd Blanche later said the case was not intended to overturn results, while Senator Lisa Murkowski condemned the filing.
