19-Year-Old Arrested After Attempted Shooting at Chicago Hindu Temple
Police detained 19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis after he entered the parking lot of the Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple in Aurora, Illinois, with a rifle that jammed, authorities said. Community leaders said the incident reflected a rise in anti-Hindu rhetoric online. A coworker reported a possible threat, prompting Palatine police to arrest the suspect on charges of making a terrorist threat and illegal weapon possession. A manifesto, additional ammunition and a tactical vest were recovered, and he was charged with a terrorist threat.
U. S. Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi said his family was present at the temple when the plot was uncovered. The investigation involved the Palatine Police Department, the FBI and Aurora police.
