Voters Favor Democratic-leaning Congress to Check Trump Agenda, Poll Shows
A Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll found that most U. S. voters want a Democratic-leaning Congress to act as a check on President Donald Trump’s agenda ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Earlier polls had documented Trump’s slipping approval, with a Reuters/Ipsos survey reporting a 31% approval rating, the lowest of his term, and a 12-point Democratic advantage in generic midterm ballots. A Fox News poll highlighted inflation and cost-of-living concerns as top voter issues and recorded a record-low job approval for Trump, while an NBC News Decision Desk poll showed only 34% approval and 71% of adults saying the country was on the wrong track. A New York Times and Siena University survey indicated Democrats leading Republicans by 11 points among likely voters and placed Trump’s approval at 36%.
