Rams release Harrison Mevis, add Blake Grupe from Jets' practice squad
The Los Angeles Rams have cut kicker Harrison Mevis and signed former Jets practice-squad player Blake Gruge to address recent special-teams struggles.
The Los Angeles Rams announced the release of kicker Harrison Mevis following the team's overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night. The move comes as the Rams seek to improve special-teams performance after missing several field-goal attempts in the game.
The team signed 27-year-old Blake Gruge, who had been on the New York Jets' practice squad, to replace Mevis. Gruge previously spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts, posting an 81.9% field-goal conversion rate and a 98.0% extra-point success rate over three seasons.
Mevis, who entered the 2025 season with a perfect extra-point record and a 12-of-13 field-goal conversion rate, missed four of nine attempts this season, including two in the overtime defeat to Buffalo. The Rams hope Gruge can stabilize the kicking game moving forward.
