Federal raid on Ilhan Omar’s D.C. home sparks legal fight and Trump threats
Representative Ilhan Omar said the pre-dawn federal raid on her Washington, D. C. , home on 12 October forced her to leave the residence, a statement she made on 22 October. President Donald Trump later warned that if immigration-fraud allegations are proven, Omar could face jail and deportation, while border-security adviser Tom Homan said denaturalization is possible. The Justice Department has issued dozens of subpoenas to Omar’s family members, and a magistrate judge limited the scope of the search, citing congressional protections.
The investigation began when Homeland Security Investigations, under a DOJ warrant, searched Omar’s D. C. home on 12 October, seizing electronic devices and documents. Earlier reports noted that the probe also examined her financial disclosures and that her husband Tim Mynett was seen leaving the house repeatedly.
