ICE Agent Put on Leave After Houston Collision Injuring Miguel Parra Hernández
A senior Department of Homeland Security official said the ICE officer involved in the 8 October vehicle collision in Houston has been placed on administrative leave while internal and criminal investigations proceed. The collision happened as ICE agents pursued a suspect in a northwest Harris County parking lot, striking 48-year-old Miguel Parra-Hernández and leaving him with broken legs, a fractured hip and ankle.
Surveillance video showed an unmarked ICE SUV hitting the pedestrian, and Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said the footage indicated the officer deliberately ran him over. A Texas district attorney later said a felony assault charge is being considered, while family members and immigrant-rights groups have urged authorities not to deport two handcuffed men who were in the vehicle at the time.
