Michael Douglas Discloses Past Affairs in Memoir
In his memoir, Michael Douglas reveals he had extramarital relationships with co-stars Jeanne Tripplehorn during the filming of "Basic Instinct" and Kathleen Turner while making "Romancing the Stone," both occurring while he was still married.
Michael Douglas said in his memoir "One Helluva Ride" that he had an affair with actress Jeanne Tripplehorn while filming the 1992 movie "Basic Instinct," despite a nearly 20-year age gap. He wrote that the relationship lasted through the production and ended after the film wrapped. Douglas also confirmed a long-standing affair with Kathleen Turner that began during the 1984 shoot of "Romancing the Stone," describing it as developing naturally from close collaboration on set. He noted that both affairs were kept secret from the public and the film crews, and that they ended after his estranged wife, Diandra Luker, visited the set with their son. Douglas and Luker divorced in 2000, and he later married Catherine Zeta-Jones.
"The truth is, I fell very hard for Jeanne despite our nearly 20-year age difference," Douglas wrote.
"The truth is that during the production of Romancing the Stone, Kathleen and I fell hard for each other and began a relationship," he added.
The actor said the disclosures were intended to correct past denials and to explain why he and his former spouses kept the relationships private.
