Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield diagnosed with dislocated thumb after loss to Vikings

Résumé

Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a dislocated right thumb late in the 23-16 defeat to Minnesota and will undergo an MRI, while the team fell to 0-3.

Tampa Bay quarterback Baker Mayfield sustained a dislocated right thumb with 1:54 left in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 23-16 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to head coach Todd Bowles. X-rays showed no fracture, and the team said Mayfield will have an MRI on Monday to assess the injury.

The injury occurred when Mayfield’s pass was intercepted by Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel. Rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels entered for the final drive and threw an interception on the last play.

Wide receiver Jalen McMillan also required an MRI after injuring his left knee; the scan will determine whether the issue is a new injury or an aggravation of a problem he dealt with during training camp. The defeat left the Buccaneers winless at 0-3.
