The New England Patriots beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-10 on September 20, delivering a dominant defensive performance while rookie quarterback Drake Maye recorded modest numbers amid pressure and turnovers, a Boston Herald report said on September 22. Earlier reports described a 20-3 victory on the same night, highlighting a 39-yard rushing touchdown by TreVeyon Henderson and a defensive fumble return for a score.

CBS Sports noted that Aaron Rodgers was limited to 187 passing yards, and Yahoo Sports quoted coach Mike Vrabel saying he was not concerned about Maye's play. The Patriots' home opener marked their first win of the season, with contributions from several young players despite injury concerns.
