Warner credits early arrival and preparation for Rams' loss to 49ers in Australia
The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 in Melbourne, with linebacker Fred Warner noting the Rams' late arrival and limited preparation as factors in the defeat.
The San Francisco 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 27-7 on Thursday night in Melbourne, Australia. After a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter, the Rams were outscored 24-0 in the second half. Demarcus Robinson caught a touchdown pass that gave the 49ers a 10-7 halftime lead, and the team added 17 unanswered points after the break, including a series of goal-to-go stops that halted a Matthew Stafford quarterback sneak.
Linebacker Fred Warner, returning from a serious ankle injury, recorded 11 tackles and a forced fumble in the fourth quarter. In the post-game press conference, Warner said the Rams' early arrival and the resources provided to the team helped them feel stronger as the game progressed, while the 49ers had only a week to acclimate to the venue.
"I think it was definitely a matter of us feeling like we got stronger as the game went on. The opposing team, it felt like they kinda withered away. Our plan was great. Coming out here early, all the resources they gave us to be successful for today is what gave us a chance to win this game."
Analysts noted that the travel schedule could affect both teams when they return to the United States, but Warner's return to the Rams' defense is expected to bolster their future performance.
