Packers coach says Jacobs' conviction does not alter his view of the player

Résumé

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said the misdemeanor battery conviction of running back Josh Jacobs does not change his assessment of the player, while the NFL reviews possible discipline.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the recent misdemeanor battery conviction of running back Josh Jacobs on Friday, saying the incident is "an unfortunate situation" but that it does not affect his opinion of the player’s character. LaFleur added that he knows Jacobs personally and will not comment further until the NFL completes its investigation.

Jacobs, who pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property in a Green Bay court, was fined $1,000 for the battery charge and ordered to complete a five-part deferred-judgment program over the next year to have the property-damage charge dismissed. He issued a brief court statement acknowledging the seriousness of the matter and taking full responsibility.

The player remains on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list, which bars him from playing or practicing while the league determines whether a suspension will be imposed.
