Modders Extend DLSS 5 to Older GPUs and Multi-GPU; NBA 2K27 Test Shows Power Cost
Engadget reported that DLSS 5 adds modest texture and lighting improvements to NBA 2K27 at 4K resolution on an RTX 5090, but also raises GPU power draw and reduces frame rates. Earlier, Wccftech reported that enthusiasts had adapted the leaked DLSS 5 neural rendering to run on RTX 20- and 30-series GPUs, older DirectX and Vulkan titles, and even PlayStation 2 emulation, though performance varied. TweakTown said an open-source DLSS 5 Swapper tool automates insertion of DLSS 5 into unsupported games across RTX 20-, RTX 30-series and older GPUs. GameGPU noted a community modification enabled DLSS 5 upscaling in Medal of Honor: European Assault via the PCSX2 emulator on an RTX 4070 Super, with variable impact.
Wccftech later described a ReShade MGPU Bridge add-on that offloads DLSS 5 rendering to a second RTX 5060 Ti, restoring or improving frame rates in DirectX 12 titles. Digital Foundry reported that moving the upscaling workload to a secondary GPU roughly doubled frame rates while adding 8–12 ms latency. TechPowerUp highlighted a YouTube demonstration by Marcelo Guibout showing notable frame-rate gains in a multi-GPU DLSS 5 setup and raising questions about driver support.
