San Francisco 49ers Reveal Initial 53-Man Roster Ahead of Season Opener
The 49ers announced an initial 52-player roster, with one additional move expected before their Week 1 game in Australia.
San Francisco released its initial roster on Sunday, listing 52 players as the team prepares for its season-opening matchup against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia. The club expects at least one more transaction, likely a trade for offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson, to bring the roster to the full 53.
Quarterbacks Brock Purdy, Mac Jones and rookie Kurtis Rourke remain on the active list, with Rourke retained to avoid waivers. Running backs Christian McCaffrey, Jordan James and Kaelon Black are joined by Isaac Guerendo on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk is the sole player at his position.
Wide receivers Mike Evans, Deebo Samuel, De'Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson, Jacob Cowing and Jordan Watkins make up the group, while Christian Kirk is listed on injured reserve with a return designation. Tight ends include George Kittle, Jake Tonges, Luke Farrell and Brayden Willis.
The offensive line features Trent Williams, Colton McKivitz, Jake Brendel, Dominick Puni, Carver Willis, Enrique Cruz Jr., Vederian Lowe and Connor Colby, with several players on injured reserve. Defensive linemen include Nick Bosa, Osa Odighizuwa, Alfred Collins, CJ West, Gracen Halton, Sam Okuayinonu, Keion White, Romello Height and James Thompson Jr., and Mykel Williams is on the PUP list.
Linebackers Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, Tatum Bethune, Jaden Dugger, Garret Wallow, Luke Gifford and Nick Martin round out the defensive unit. Cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir, Renardo Green, Upton Stout, Jack Jones, Ephesians Prysock and Nate Hobbs are listed, with Hobbs noted as an injury concern. Safeties Ji'Ayir Brown, Malik Mustapha, Marques Sigle and Siran Neal complete the secondary.
Kicker Eddy Pineiro is the only specialist named, as the team has not yet re-signed punter Corliss Waitman or long snapper Jon Weeks, who are expected to return after further roster adjustments.
