Scottie Scheffler clinches FedExCup with $10 million Tour Championship victory
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won the Tour Championship in Atlanta, securing the FedExCup title and a $10 million prize as part of a $40 million purse.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler secured a three-stroke victory at the Tour Championship on Sunday, posting a final-round 66 to finish at 16-under for the week. The win gave him the FedExCup title and a $10 million payout from the $40 million purse offered at the season-ending event in Atlanta.
Viktor Hovland, who entered the final round with a one-stroke lead, fell back after a bogey on the first hole and finished solo second at 13-under. Ryan Gerard rounded out the top three.
Scheffler’s performance included two early birdies, one on the par-3 second hole that nearly resulted in an ace. He and Hovland remained close through the back nine until Scheffler sank an 11-foot birdie putt on the 16th, creating a two-stroke margin that proved decisive.
The Tour Championship field was limited to the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings. J.J. Spaun withdrew after the opening round due to a shoulder injury but retained a $355,000 payout for having qualified.
The victory marks Scheffler’s third win of the season and his 22nd career PGA Tour triumph. It also makes him the third golfer, after Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, to capture multiple FedExCup titles, and moves him past Woods as the PGA Tour’s all-time earnings leader, approaching the $121 million mark.
"Scheffler’s win underscores his consistency throughout the season and his ability to perform under the pressure of the FedExCup playoffs," a PGA Tour spokesperson said.
