Scheffler wins FedEx St. Jude Championship by eight strokes

Resumen

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler captured his second victory of the season at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, finishing eight shots ahead and securing the top spot in the FedExCup standings.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler claimed an eight-stroke victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, posting a 66 in the final round to finish at 17-under for the tournament. The win, his second of the season, earned him a $3.6 million prize and kept him atop the FedExCup leaderboard with two events remaining.

Scheffler entered the final round with a one-stroke lead over Sam Burns after a 68 on Saturday. He extended his advantage early on Sunday, and by the turn he was five strokes ahead. A 20-foot birdie putt on the back-nine increased the margin to six, and he added two more birdies to close out the round.

"I've had some close calls this year … Going into today, I wanted to just try and do my best and try and execute," Scheffler said on CBS.

The victory marked Scheffler's 21st PGA Tour win, with 15 coming in the past three seasons. He also recorded 14 putts from more than 10 feet, the most by any player in the tournament and a career high for him.

"I think I've been really consistent," Scheffler added. "Outside of AmEx, I felt like I didn't play as good early in the year as I could've. But just staying consistent and staying in it each week, that's what I'm most proud of."

South Korea's Si Woo Kim finished solo second at nine-under, while Alex Noren and Sam Burns tied for third at eight-under. Rory McIlroy ended the event in 66th place, his lowest finish of the season, and Jordan Spieth fell outside the top 50 despite a tied-19th round.

The FedExCup playoffs continue with the Tour Championship scheduled for later this month in Atlanta, where the title remains open.
