Tim Curry, the British actor known for his roles in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and the 1990 miniseries "It," died at age 80, his manager confirmed.

Tim Curry, a British actor who rose to international fame for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," died at 80, his manager said. Born in Cheshire, England, in 1946, Curry began his career in the original West End production of "Hair" in 1968 before moving into film and television.

His screen work included the villainous clown Pennywise in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s novel "It," as well as roles in "Annie," "Legend," "Clue," "The Three Musketeers" and the "Home Alone" sequel. He also appeared on television series such as "Oliver Twist" and "Will & Grace."

Curry discussed the impact of his "Rocky Horror" character in a 2023 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, saying it gave teenagers "permission to be different" and that he was "very happy" it had that effect. He also spoke about maintaining privacy about his personal life while promoting his memoir "Vagabond."

The actor suffered a stroke in 2012 that left him partially paralyzed. In the same CBS interview, he reflected on his longevity and expressed a calm attitude toward death, noting, "I try to avoid it, as I think we all do! But I suspect that in the end, I will welcome it."
