Texas golf brand and Callaway withdraw controversial ad after criticism
Good Good Golf and equipment maker Callaway removed a 55-second commercial that depicted a woman being shoved after a dispute over a driver, and issued apologies citing misalignment with brand values.
A commercial produced by Frisco-based Good Good Golf in partnership with Callaway has been withdrawn after it drew criticism for showing a woman being pushed to the ground over a golf driver. The 55-second video featured professional golfer and content creator Alexis Miestowski reaching for a new driver before Good Good Golf co-founder Garrett Clark attacked her from behind, shoving her and warning, "Don't touch my new driver." In a later scene, Clark shoves a friend aside before taking a swing.
Both companies posted apologies on social media, stating the content did not reflect their values. Good Good Golf said the video was removed and the brand remains committed to making golf more inclusive. Callaway’s spokesperson, Brewer, added that the company is "unequivocally against discrimination, domestic violence, or threatening behaviour of any kind" and pledged to learn from the incident.
Good Good Golf, founded in 2020 and backed by $45 million in funding, is slated to be the title sponsor of a new PGA Tour event in Austin later this year. Callaway is headquartered in Carlsbad, California.
