World No. 1 Scheffler backs PGA Tour's 2028 match-play Tour Championship
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler said in Atlanta that the upcoming match-play format for the Tour Championship could make the season finale more exciting for fans while offering a different experience for players.
The PGA Tour announced that beginning in 2028 the Tour Championship will shift to a two-week, head-to-head match-play structure, rotating between two venues and featuring a 32-player field after a 90-player stroke-play event determines the points leader. Earlier in the year the Tour also released its 2027 schedule, adding a new tournament, dropping both Hawaiian stops and spacing its 36 events to avoid back-to-back signature tournaments.
