Taylor Sheridan rules out planned Yellowstone spinoff set at Texas' Four Sixes Ranch
Series creator Taylor Sheridan confirmed that the announced Yellowstone spinoff centered on the Four Sixes Ranch will not be produced, citing respect for the working ranch and its owners.
Series creator Taylor Sheridan told the Rodeo Time podcast that the previously announced Yellowstone spinoff titled "6666" will not move forward. He said the project would never be made because he does not want to fictionalize the real Four Sixes Ranch in Texas.
"There’s never going to be one. I would never fictionalize that ranch," Sheridan said.
Sheridan explained that fans had expected a spin-off after the character Jimmy Hurdstrom was sent to the ranch in season four, but he believes turning the ranch into a drama would trivialize the lives of the people who work there. He added that he and a group of investors purchased the property in 2020 and feels a responsibility to protect it.
"I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves, and everybody that works on that ranch. I’m very protective of the Sixes, and it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch," he said.
Paramount had announced the series in 2022, describing it as a period drama set when Comanche tribes still roamed West Texas, with Sheridan and several producers attached. The project has since been shelved, while the Yellowstone franchise continues to expand with other series such as 1883, 1923, Marshals and Texas-set Dutton Ranch.
