Off-duty Worcester officer killed; police hunt 58-year-old woman believed armed

Summary

An off-duty Worcester police officer died in a domestic incident on Wildwood Avenue, and authorities are searching for a 58-year-old woman described as potentially armed.

Police responded to a residence on Wildwood Avenue in Worcester shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday and found a male victim who was later identified as 57-year-old Patrolman Kurt Solomon, an off-duty officer with 31 years of service. The Worcester Police Union said Solomon is survived by two adult sons.

The department announced that investigators are looking for a 58-year-old woman named Karen Solomon, who is described as having dark brown hair, brown eyes and wearing pajama shorts and a tank top when last seen walking toward Westcott Street. Police consider her armed and dangerous and have asked the public not to approach her.

"We are currently searching for a female, Karen Solomon, who is presumed to be armed and dangerous," Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier said.

"You got a person in the neighborhood, in the area, presumed to be armed and dangerous. You want to do everything you can to find that person as quickly as possible, and also find out exactly what happened at the house that evening," County District Attorney Joseph Early added.

A large law-enforcement presence was observed near Coes Reservoir later in the day, including officers on a fire-department boat surveying a small island, though officials have not confirmed a direct link to the search. A crime-scene tent was set up in the backyard of the Wildwood Avenue home. The investigation remains ongoing, and the district attorney’s office said the search for Karen Solomon would continue on Wednesday.
