Massachusetts woman sought in officer's death found dead, police say
Karen Solomon, wanted on assault charges after her husband, Officer Kurt Solomon, was found dead, was discovered deceased with a gun nearby, officials said.
Worcester police said Karen Solomon, who had an arrest warrant for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, was found dead on Monday, a gun discovered near her body. The discovery came days after officers located her husband, Officer Kurt Solomon, dead at their shared home on Tuesday. Police chief Paul Saucier described the case as a tragic murder-suicide and said there was no history of domestic abuse between the couple. He noted that Kurt Solomon’s service weapon remained at the residence. Investigators have not released further details about the officer’s injuries, which involved a sharp object, citing the ongoing inquiry. Earlier footage from a doorbell camera captured Karen Solomon walking in casual attire shortly after police responded to the home. Two workers at a nearby rehabilitation hospital reported finding her body about half a mile from the location shown in the footage. A wake for Kurt Solomon is scheduled for Tuesday, with his funeral set for Wednesday.
"The nightmare of the past week has left our family heartbroken and rudderless," the Solomon family said in a statement read by the chief. The police department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
