Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte to undergo MRI in Arizona
Ketel Marte will travel to Arizona for a magnetic resonance imaging scan of his left knee after missing a game and being placed on the restricted list, with his return date still uncertain.
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said the decision for second baseman Ketel Marte to have an MRI on his left knee was made by the player, and the team hopes he can return before the season ends. Marte missed the opening game of the Boston series after failing to appear at Fenway Park and was subsequently placed on the restricted list, according to Diamondbacks officials.
The club has not provided an estimated timeline for his return, and Lovullo indicated that the situation is still being evaluated. Fantasy baseball analysts were advised that Marte could be unavailable for an extended period, pending further medical evaluation.
Marte was previously pulled from a Friday night game due to knee soreness and sat out the following Saturday as a precaution. He returned for the Sunday series finale against Atlanta, where he contributed a solo home run and a base hit. His season statistics to date include 21 home runs, 63 runs scored and 66 RBIs with a .249/.310/.448 slash line over 509 plate appearances.
The Diamondbacks are expected to release a definitive update on Marte’s status in the coming days.
