Three Dead in Hopkins In-Home Daycare Attack, Police Say
A 911 call led Hopkins police to a home where a woman, her 7-year-old daughter and a man were found dead after a violent incident, while six other children were unharmed.
Police responded to a residence on Tyler Avenue North in Hopkins around 9 a.m. after a parent who was dropping off children called 911 reporting ongoing violence. Investigators found three fatalities: a 41-year-old woman and her 7-year-old daughter, both stabbed, and a 41-year-old man who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The parent who placed the call said he heard children screaming, entered through the back door and saw the man on top of the woman, armed with a screwdriver and stabbing both the woman and his daughter. He then rescued his two children and two other children present and left the home before dialing emergency services.
When officers entered, they discovered the woman and child on the kitchen floor and recovered a screwdriver at the scene. The man's body was later found in a closet on the upper level, with evidence suggesting a self-inflicted gunshot. A search warrant filed in Hennepin County seeks additional evidence, including firearms, bullets, handwritten notes, electronic devices and security camera footage. The investigation remains ongoing.
