Three family members found dead at Hopkins in-home daycare, police say

Resumen

Police say a man, woman and child were discovered dead at a Hopkins, Minnesota in-home daycare on Wednesday morning, and that the adult victim is believed to have taken his own life.

Hopkins police responded to a domestic-incident call at Brown Bear Daycare on the 200 block of Tyler Avenue North shortly after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Officers found three deceased individuals—a man, a woman and a child—who appear to be members of the same family, according to Police Chief Brent Johnson. The chief said investigators preliminarily believe the adult male was the perpetrator and died by suicide.

Six other children were present at the daycare at the time. Police were able to remove them from the home and reunite them with their families, and no additional injuries were reported. A parent who arrived to drop off children called police after witnessing the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, with the street blocked off and a crime-scene unit on site. Authorities have not released details about the cause of death. A briefing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said her office is working with Hopkins police and has victim-services resources ready. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed condolences and offered city assistance to Hopkins officials.
