Bug Fire burns over 6,500 acres near Nevada-California border, evacuations continue

Resumen

The Bug Fire has scorched more than 6,500 acres in Washoe County, prompting ongoing evacuations and road closures, while no structures have been reported damaged.

Fire crews are battling the Bug Fire, which ignited Saturday afternoon northwest of Cold Springs along U.S. 395 near the Nevada-California border. The blaze has consumed an estimated 6,528 acres and is spreading eastward within Washou County.

The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District reported that no structures have been lost, and crews continued ground and aerial operations through the night to protect property.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for portions of Cold Springs, Canyon Hills, White Lake, Silver Knolls and areas north of Cold Springs. An evacuation center is operating at the Evelyn Mount Community Center in Reno, with a separate trailer for small animals, while larger livestock can be taken to the Reno Livestock Event Center.

Nevada Highway Patrol has closed the White Lake and Village Parkway exits on northbound U.S. 395, though the highway itself stays open. Off-ramps at White Lake Parkway and Village Parkway remain shut.

Authorities in neighboring Lassen and Sierra counties have issued evacuation warnings for specific zones. Fire officials will reassess evacuation needs throughout the day and are remapping the fire’s perimeter.
