Evacuation orders issued for Red Rock area as Bug Fire expands
Authorities have upgraded evacuation warnings to orders for parts of Red Rock and surrounding neighborhoods in Washoe County as the Bug Fire grows to 17,000 acres and remains only 4% contained.
Washoe County officials have issued evacuation orders for several sections of the Red Rock community, including Porcupine Mountain, Frontier Road, Quarter Horse Circle, Appalossa Creek and Percheron Drive, as the Bug Fire continues to spread. Orders also cover areas around Seven Lakes Mountain, Belgian Way and Dry Valley Creek. Separate evacuation warnings remain in effect for zones west and south of Wildcat Hill Dogskin Mountain and west of Winnemucca Ranch Road.
The fire, which ignited near Cold Springs on Saturday afternoon, has burned approximately 17,000 acres and is only 4% contained. The Bureau of Land Management has classified the blaze as human-caused but has not released further details. Officials say the fire is wind-driven, with hot, dry and windy conditions contributing to its expansion, and they expect activity to continue into the evening.
