Zendaya and Tom Holland Drive Record Summer Box Office in 2026

Résumé

The duo's films "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" and "The Odyssey" generated a combined $1.3 billion worldwide this summer, producing the largest domestic weekend in U.S. box-office history.

Tom Holland and Zendaya's latest releases have dominated the 2026 summer box office. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" earned $355 million in North America and $927 million globally in its opening weekend, making it the second-largest worldwide debut after "Avengers: Endgame". The film is projected to exceed $1 billion worldwide within its first week. Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey", also starring the pair, has accumulated $911 million worldwide across three weekends. Together, the two movies generated roughly $430 million in a single domestic weekend, the highest ever recorded in the United States.

For Zendaya, the combined earnings of her 2026 releases—including "The Drama", "The Odyssey" and "Brand New Day"—approach $2 billion globally. She is slated to appear in "Dune: Part Three" later this year, which could bring her total close to the single-year record held by Brie Larson in 2019. Tom Holland's films this year have grossed about $1.8 billion worldwide, and he may return in the upcoming "Avengers: Doomsday", which could further increase his box-office totals.

Both actors first collaborated on "Spider-Man: Homecoming" nearly a decade ago and have since taken on leading roles across different genres. Holland confirmed the couple married earlier this year. Critics gave "Brand New Day" a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, an "A" CinemaScore, and a 98% audience rating on the same site. The film achieved its record opening without extensive IMAX support, a format typically used for high-gross releases.

Internationally, "Brand New Day" performed strongly, with China contributing $121 million and notable openings in the United Kingdom, Mexico, South Korea and India. Upcoming projects include "Avengers: Doomsday", "Dune: Part Three", and a delayed "Shrek 5" slated for 2027. Zendaya indicated she plans to step back from public engagements after her current promotional commitments conclude.
