Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned about $168 million on its opening day in the United States and Canada, surpassing the previous first-day record and positioning the film for a strong weekend box-office performance.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day generated roughly $168 million in its opening day, including previews, in the United States and Canada, overtaking the prior first-day record of $157.4 million set by Avengers: Endgame. The film’s weekend total is projected to fall between $325 million and $350 million, which would make it the second-largest three-day opening in North American history behind Endgame’s $357.1 million.
Industry trackers note that if the movie maintains a Friday total above $105 million, its chances of eclipsing the all-time opening record improve. Early estimates suggest a Friday gross of about $95 million after removing preview earnings, with a similar figure expected for Saturday and a modest decline on Sunday, potentially yielding a $340 million-plus opening.
The opening marks Sony’s biggest domestic debut, exceeding the $260.1 million start of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. It also represents a record for director Destin Daniel Cretton and a high point for lead actors Tom Holland and Zendaya.
In China, the film led the box office with more than $71 million after a Wednesday release, despite the earlier Spider-Man installment not being shown there.
Analysts compare the film’s preview earnings, estimated at $72 million, to the previous domestic preview record of $60 million held by Avengers: Endgame. The strong preview performance positions Brand New Day among the few movies to achieve a $100 million-plus first-day total, joining titles such as Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Overall, the North American market is on track for a record-breaking weekend, potentially surpassing the $402 million total recorded during Avengers: Endgame’s opening weekend.
