Former UFC contender Anthony Smith detained on multiple felony charges in Nebraska
Anthony Smith was arrested in Sarpy County, Nebraska, and faces felony charges of terroristic threats, false imprisonment and domestic violence causing serious bodily injury.
Anthony Smith was taken into custody on Monday evening at 8:44 p.m. in Sarpy County, Nebraska, and is being held at the county jail. Court records show he is charged with three felonies: terroristic threats, false imprisonment in the first degree, and domestic violence causing serious bodily injury. In Nebraska, the domestic-violence charge is a Class 2A felony that can carry up to 20 years in prison, while the terroristic threats and false imprisonment charges are Class 3A felonies punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment, 18 months of post-release supervision and fines of up to $10,000. Smith, a former UFC light-heavyweight title challenger who retired in 2023 after a knockout loss to Zhang Mingyang, returned to competition earlier this year at a bare-knuckle MMA event, where he submitted Chase Sherman. He also works as an analyst for UFC broadcasts.
"The charges stem from alleged incidents that have not yet been disclosed," a court spokesperson said.
