Kansas City Chiefs coach's son arrested after mother shot in Virginia
Elijah Zion Bieniemy was taken into custody on charges related to the shooting of his mother in Ashburn, Virginia, and is being held without bond.
Loudoun County authorities arrested Elijah Zion Bieniemy on Sunday night after a domestic-violence call led police to his mother, Mia Bieniemy, 57, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds at her Ashburn home. The suspect faces charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling, and is being held without bond at the county adult detention center.
"Bieniemy is stable," head coach Andy Reid said, according to Chiefs reporter Nate Taylor on X.
Elijah Bieniemy is the son of Eric Bieniemy, the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, who returned to the team this season after a brief departure. The Chiefs are currently conducting training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, and the incident did not affect the team's closed-door practice on Monday.
