CBS NFL analyst Tony Romo arrested on suspicion of DUI in Wisconsin

Summary

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS analyst Tony Romo was detained after failing field-sobriety tests during a traffic stop in Milwaukee County and released pending a court date in September.

Tony Romo, a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback who has served as CBS’s lead NFL analyst since 2017, was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence (OWI) after a traffic stop on Interstate 43 near Milwaukee on Thursday. According to a report from the Milwaukee County sheriff’s office, Romo performed poorly on field-sobriety tests, was taken into custody, booked and subsequently released.

Romo, who attended high school in Burlington, Wisconsin, was in the area to participate in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament, Wisconsin Public Radio reported. In Wisconsin, a first-offense OWI is treated as a civil infraction rather than a criminal charge, typically resulting in a fine of $150 to $300. He is scheduled to appear in court on 21 September.

The 46-year-old former quarterback made four Pro Bowl selections during his NFL career from 2004 to 2016, all with the Cowboys, and remains the franchise’s leader in career touchdown passes with 248. CBS declined to comment on the arrest.
