Reality TV star Darrell Sheets cited online bullying in suicide note, police report says

Résumé

Police reports indicate that Darrell Sheets, known from "Storage Wars," left a handwritten note mentioning Facebook bullying before his death by self-inflicted gunshot in April.

Police in Lake Havasu City say a handwritten note found in a closet described Darrell Sheets’ inability to endure "Facebook bullying" and included a profanity directed at an unnamed individual. Detectives noted the writing appeared shaky.

According to the incident report, Sheets was discovered by his girlfriend after he got out of bed late and, after telling her to return to bed, a single gunshot was heard. The report also mentions a recent verbal argument between Sheets and his son, Brandon, over family matters, and text messages from his daughter-in-law that allegedly accused the girlfriend of stealing money.

Friends and family described Sheets as stressed and sleep-deprived in the days before his death, though he had not previously spoken of self-harm. His ex-wife, Kimber Wuerfel, remained in contact with him, and his former co-star Laura Dotson said the family had reported ongoing cyberbullying for three years, adding that "even strong men can be hurt by it."

Sergeant Kyle Ridgway confirmed that investigators were aware of the cyberbullying allegations. The Mohave County Medical Examiner later ruled the cause of death a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Brandon Sheets posted an Instagram tribute expressing grief, while Wuerfel also shared a remembrance on the platform.
