Kennedy Center Removes Trump Name from Facade, Tarps Remain
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts removed signage bearing President Donald Trump's name from its marble facade after a federal judge ordered the change. Earlier, the Center had taken down all online references to Trump to comply with the same district-court ruling, The Guardian reported. The Center’s board then voted to ask a federal judge for a stay of the order, AP News said, and filed an appeal, NPR noted. A Washington district judge rejected the administration’s request for a stay, CNBC reported. Following the denial, workers began taking down the marble-set signage, CBS News and AP confirmed, and the Center complied with the deadline, PBS added.
Later, plastic tarps were left covering the facade, leaving the building’s appearance unclear, CNN and Euronews reported. A D. C. Circuit panel also refused an emergency stay, CBS noted. In a separate move, the Center’s board approved an endowment that bears Trump’s name, CBS reported. The judge’s order also barred the administration from closing the venue for renovations, The Guardian said.
