Target recalls baby wipes over contamination concerns

Target has initiated a voluntary recall of its Up & Up brand baby wipes following reports of product discoloration and potential contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria. These wipes, which include various package sizes of Fragrance Free and Fresh Cucumber Scented options, were available in Target stores and online.

The company received multiple consumer complaints regarding the wipes, which are predominantly used on infants and young children, making them particularly vulnerable to infections. Target noted that in healthy individuals, the risk of infection from using the product on broken skin is higher, while in immunocompromised individuals, including young children, the infection could lead to severe health issues such as bloodstream infections or pneumonia.
