Michael McKee, 39, has been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, Dr. Spencer Tepe, 37, in their Columbus, Ohio, home. The couple was found deceased from gunshot wounds on December 30, 2025, after police conducted a welfare check prompted by concerns from Spencer's employer over his unexplained absence. Their two young children were present in the home but were unharmed.
McKee was arrested in Rockford, Illinois, and is currently held in the Winnebago County Jail pending extradition to Ohio. Court records indicate that McKee and Monique were married in 2015 and divorced in 2017. Monique and Spencer married in 2020.
Investigators identified McKee as a suspect through neighborhood surveillance footage, which showed a vehicle arriving near the Tepe residence shortly before the estimated time of the homicides and departing shortly thereafter. This vehicle was later located in Rockford, Illinois, and linked to McKee.
The Franklin County Coroner's Office has classified the deaths as homicides resulting from gunshot wounds. McKee's next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
In a statement, the Tepe family expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts, stating, "Today's arrest represents an important step toward justice for Monique and Spencer. Nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon, but we are grateful to the City of Columbus Police Department, its investigators, and assisting law enforcement community whose tireless efforts helped to capture the person involved."
