Cracker Barrel Addresses Backlash Over Logo Redesign
Cracker Barrel responds to criticism following its recent logo change, emphasizing commitment to core values and heritage.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store has responded to public criticism following its recent logo redesign, which removed the image of a man in overalls leaning against a barrel. The company stated, "If the last few days have shown us anything, it's how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel. We're truly grateful for your heartfelt voices."
The new logo, part of a broader rebranding effort, features the brand name against a yellow barrel outline, omitting the previous "Uncle Herschel" character and the phrase "Old Country Store." This change has sparked backlash, particularly from conservative commentators who view it as a departure from the brand's traditional image.
In response, Cracker Barrel emphasized that its core values remain unchanged and that beloved elements like rocking chairs, peg games, and vintage Americana decor will continue to be part of the customer experience. The company also noted that "Uncle Herschel" will still be featured on menus and store merchandise.
Despite the controversy, Cracker Barrel's CEO, Julie Felss Masino, defended the rebranding, stating that the company aims to modernize while maintaining its rich history of country hospitality.
Following the logo change, Cracker Barrel's stock experienced a significant decline, dropping over 7% and erasing approximately $94 million from its market value.
