Cracker Barrel Removes DEI and Pride Content from Website Amid Backlash

Summary

Cracker Barrel has removed its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Pride content from its website following criticism over recent rebranding efforts.

Cracker Barrel has recently removed its dedicated Pride page and references to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives from its website. The Tennessee-based restaurant chain's Pride page, which previously celebrated LGBTQ+ inclusivity, now redirects to a revised 'Culture and Belonging' page that omits mentions of employee resource groups such as the LGBTQ+ Alliance and DEIB Team.

A company spokesperson stated that the website updates were part of routine content management, involving the addition of new material and the removal of outdated information. The spokesperson also noted that several months ago, Cracker Barrel adjusted its Business Resource Groups to focus sponsorships and events on corporate giving initiatives addressing food insecurity, supporting community needs through food, and reducing food waste.

These changes follow a recent controversy over Cracker Barrel's logo redesign, which faced significant backlash from conservative activists. The company had introduced a minimalist logo, removing the traditional barrel and 'Old-Timer' figure, but reversed the decision after criticism, including comments from President Donald Trump advocating for the return of the original logo.

Conservative influencer Robby Starbuck highlighted the company's Pride page on social media, criticizing Cracker Barrel for maintaining LGBTQ+ and DEI content on its website. Following the website updates, Starbuck declared 'a total victory' on social media.

Cracker Barrel has faced challenges in recent years, with its stock losing more than half its value over the past five years. Shares experienced a brief uptick after the company scrapped its rebrand but declined again following the website changes.
