Russian Forces Infiltrate Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Amid Renewed Drone Strikes on Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure
Russian troops have entered two settlements in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region, while a large-scale drone assault has targeted Ukrainian energy facilities across six regions, causing significant power outages.
Russian forces have recently infiltrated Ukrainian defenses in the border settlements of Zaporizke and Novoheorhiivka in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Ukrainian military officials report that while Russian troops are operating within these areas, they have not established enduring positions. Ukrainian forces are actively counterattacking to repel the advances.
Concurrently, Russia has launched a large-scale drone assault targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure across six regions. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 95 drones were launched, with 74 intercepted. However, 21 drones struck nine locations, causing significant damage. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the strikes resulted in power outages affecting over 100,000 households in Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv oblasts. The Ministry of Energy confirmed damage to a critical electrical substation in Sumy City and gas transportation facilities in Poltava Oblast.
These developments come as the Kremlin appears to be resuming its campaign targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure ahead of the winter season, likely aiming to undermine Ukrainian resilience. The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy considers these attacks a continuation of Russia's deliberate policy to destroy civilian infrastructure before the heating season.
