Uber to cut 10% of staff as part of restructuring effort

Resumen

Uber announced a plan to eliminate about 10% of its workforce, streamline management layers and consolidate teams, while allowing a small fraction of employees to remain remote.

Uber said it will reduce its workforce by roughly 10% as part of a restructuring aimed at simplifying operations and accelerating decision-making. The company, which had about 34,000 employees at the end of 2025, plans to halve small teams of one to two members and cut the number of staff seven levels below the CEO by 20%. It will also merge additional teams and concentrate more workers in hubs such as New York and San Francisco, while permitting about 1% of staff to continue remote work.

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi wrote to employees that the changes are intended to make Uber "simpler and faster" and to free up capacity for future investments, including a commitment of over $10 billion to autonomous-vehicle development. He added that a leaner organization would provide clearer ownership, faster decisions and more time for building rather than coordinating. Uber did not disclose the exact number of jobs to be cut, and its shares rose nearly 2% in morning trading following the announcement.
