Toys R Us to Open New Store at Northridge Fashion Center, Adding to Over 30 U.S. Locations

Resumen

The retailer announced a forthcoming store in California’s San Fernando Valley, expanding its physical presence to more than 30 standalone and flagship locations nationwide.

Toys R Us will add a new store to the Northridge Fashion Center in California’s San Fernando Valley, the mall’s website shows the retailer listed as “Coming Soon.” The opening date has not been set. The addition brings the chain’s U.S. footprint to more than 30 standalone and flagship stores, according to the company’s website.

The brand, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017 and closed its U.S. stores in 2018, relaunched under new ownership in 2019. After a brief return with stores in New Jersey and Texas that closed in early 2021, WHP Global acquired a controlling stake in 2021 and has since pursued an expansion strategy that includes a 20,000-square-foot flagship in New Jersey, partnerships with Macy’s, and plans for locations in airports and on cruise ships.

"Macy’s cannot wait to bring the Toys R Us experience to life in our stores," said Macy’s chief merchandising officer Nata Dvir at the time of the partnership, noting that toy sales rose sharply after the collaboration.

WHP Global chairman Yehuda Shmidman said the brand’s “air, land and sea” expansion reflects its strength, citing a 50 % increase in global retail footprint since the acquisition. The Northridge store is the latest step in the retailer’s effort to rebuild its brick-and-mortar presence across the United States.
