Toys R Us to add 120 new stores in U.S. by 2026

Summary

Toys R Us announced a plan to open 120 additional standalone stores across the United States by the end of 2026, expanding its footprint beyond its current locations and mall-in-store concepts.

Toys R Us said it will open 120 new standalone stores in the United States by the end of 2026, increasing its total from the 40 existing locations and its shop-in-shop sites inside Macy’s. The expansion is being carried out with partner Go! Retail Group and follows a series of recent openings, including a flagship store at the American Dream mall and a second flagship at the Mall of America.

"This is a major moment for Toys R Us as we significantly expand our presence across the United States," said Jamie Uitdenhowen, executive vice president of Toys R Us at WHP Global.

The retailer plans to feature a broader product mix that will include traditional brands such as LEGO, Barbie and Hot Wheels as well as newer items linked to popular franchises like K-Pop Demon Hunters and Pokémon. Selected locations will also contain "Creator Studios," designated areas for influencers and toy makers to produce content and host product launches, along with candy shops and cafés for shoppers.

Toys R Us, which filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and closed most of its U.S. stores, was acquired by WHP Global in 2021. The company has since reopened a limited number of stores and is now pursuing the larger rollout ahead of the holiday season.
